Malaysia is cheaper. Check who actually awards the degree
Monash, Nottingham, Southampton and Universiti Malaya are not the same legal object. English, food and rent are the features. Permanent residency is not.

Living costs at about ₹4–8 lakh a year, plus English-medium instruction, pull families who will not or cannot write a ₹70 lakh Canadian cheque. That is a legitimate brief. The error is assuming every campus in Selangor awards the degree whose logo is on the gate.
Universiti Malaya is a homegrown research university inside the QS 100. A branch campus may award a home-country degree — or a local one. Employers in India and Singapore read the difference. Malaysia is not a work-visa product. It is a tuition-and-proximity product. Sold honestly, it has a market. Sold as “like Australia, cheaper”, it does not.
