Where the top universities are
United States
197 top universities · 3.3 lakh+ Indian students
Indian students enter on F-1 after an I-20 from a SEVP-certified school, SEVIS I-901 fee, and a consular interview. Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai remain the busiest posts. Slot waits at Mumbai have run 10–14 weeks in 2026 cycles — start the DS-160 the week the I-20 lands.
United Kingdom
90 top universities · 1.4 lakh+ Indian students
CAS from a licensed sponsor, maintenance funds (£13,761 in London / £10,539 outside for 9 months, 2026), visa fee £558, plus Immigration Health Surcharge. Taught master’s: no dependants. Statement of Changes HC 259 (July 2026) tweaked edge-case Student/Graduate rules from 3 August 2026.
Canada
32 top universities · 4 lakh+ (peak); intake now capped Indian students
2026 issuance target is 408,000 study permits (155,000 new arrivals, 253,000 extensions). PAL/TAL-required application ceiling: 309,670. From 1 January 2026, master’s and PhD students at public DLIs are exempt from PAL and sit outside that cap. Undergraduates in Ontario and BC remain the tightest files.
Australia
38 top universities · 1.2 lakh+ Indian students
Ministerial Direction 115 (from 14 Nov 2025) replaced MD111 and processes offshore 500 visas against the 2026 National Planning Level. It is a priority order, not a hard cap. Evidence Level of the provider plus GS answers decide speed. Generic AI statements are a refusal magnet.
Germany
46 top universities · 50,000+ Indian students
Admission letter, blocked account of about €1,091 net/month (2026), health insurance, and APS certificate for Indian degrees. Public universities remain low-fee. VFS + German missions in India are busy — apply as soon as the Zulassung arrives.
Ireland
8 top universities · 10,000+ Indian students
Offer from an eligible Irish higher-education institution, proof of fees and funds, private medical insurance. English-speaking EU member with US-tech HQ density that punches far above its size.
New Zealand
8 top universities · 8,000+ Indian students
Offer, funds, insurance. New Zealand is smaller, calmer, and more immigration-design-heavy than Australia. Settings on post-study work have been adjusted in recent years — always read the current INZ page, not a 2022 blog.
Netherlands
13 top universities · 6,000+ Indian students
The university applies as recognised sponsor. You pay tuition + statutory living amount into their account for the IND. English-taught master’s are abundant. Housing is the visa’s silent condition — some universities will not complete enrolment without an address.
