At a glance
What a student from Maharashtra needs to know before deciding — clearly and honestly.
The education
Public universities are affordable; IE, ESADE and IESE are globally elite business schools. English master's are growing.
The true cost
Lower living costs than northern Europe. Private business schools are the main expense.
Safety & visa
Check the latest MEA advisory before you travel. A job-search residence permit of up to 24 months is available after graduation.

After you graduate
Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.
After you graduate, you can apply for a residence permit to look for work or start a business for up to 24 months. This job-search permit does not itself allow you to work — you need a work authorisation before you start a job.
Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.
- Up to 24 months to find work or start a business
- Work authorisation needed before you start a job
- Recent migration reforms favour graduates
- Strong business-school network
Visa, work & money rules
The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.
Visa & permit fees
The national student visa costs €90, plus any applicable visa-centre service charge.
Work while studying
You can work up to 30 hours a week where the work is compatible with your studies, under the current Immigration Regulation.
Family & dependants
Family members may accompany or join you under the applicable family route, subject to means, accommodation and documentation requirements.
Proof of funds
You must show means based on the IPREM benchmark: 100% of IPREM per month for yourself (about €600 a month), plus additional percentages for accompanying family. This is a visa requirement, separate from actual living costs.
