What a student from Maharashtra needs to know before deciding — clearly and honestly.
The education
SNU, KAIST and POSTECH lead in engineering and sciences, with English-taught tracks and Samsung/LG industry links.
The true cost
Moderate fees with frequent scholarships; living costs concentrate in Seoul.
Safety & visa
Check the latest MEA advisory before you travel. After graduation, the D-10 job-seeking visa can give you up to 2 years to find skilled work.

After you graduate
Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.
After graduation you can apply for the D-10 job-seeking visa. It is granted in 6-month steps, up to a maximum of 2 years. Once you are employed, you move to a suitable work visa, such as the E-7.
Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.
- Up to 2 years, granted 6 months at a time
- Move to a work visa (e.g. E-7) once employed
- Samsung/LG/Hyundai demand
- Scholarships widely available
Visa, work & money rules
The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.
Student visa
Degree students hold the D-2 visa; language students hold the D-4 visa. You must show financial evidence that you can cover your tuition and living costs. After you arrive, register for your Alien Registration Card.
Visa & permit fees
The D-2 student visa fee for Indian applicants is INR 5,400 (single-entry long-stay), plus any applicable service fee.
Work while studying
You need prior permission from immigration before you take part-time work. The hours you can work each week depend on your study level and your Korean-language (TOPIK) level, under the current part-time-work permission rules.
Family & dependants
Your spouse and minor children can apply for the F-3 (dependent family) visa, if you can show that you are able to support them.
Health insurance
As a D-2 holder, you are enrolled in National Health Insurance (NHI) and pay monthly contributions.
Scholarships
Options include the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), which has an India pathway, and university scholarships. Depending on the track, you apply through the Korean Embassy or the university.
