After you successfully complete university studies, you can renew your temporary residence for study for an additional 9 months to look for work or start a business. Or, when you meet the requirements, you can change to an appropriate employment residence route.

Visa & permit fees
Temporary residence for study does not carry the standard temporary-residence application fee charged for employment, business or family categories. After approval, the residence card costs €10 (standard delivery) or €39 (expedited). If you need a national visa, it costs €15 (to collect an already-issued residence permit) or €90 (to submit a residence application in Slovakia).
Work while studying
As a university student holding temporary residence for study, you can work up to 80 hours a month without an additional work permit or a change of residence purpose.
Family & dependants
Eligible family members (spouse and qualifying children) of a person holding temporary residence in Slovakia can apply for temporary residence for family reunification. This is subject to relationship, accommodation, insurance and other requirements. The family permit is generally issued for the validity of the sponsor’s residence, up to the statutory maximum.
Proof of funds
For temporary residence for university study, the current official study-residence checklist does not require a separate proof-of-financial-means document. You provide the required study, criminal-record and other documents. University students are also exempt from the accommodation-document requirement in the stated circumstances. Separate visa-entry requirements may apply.
