Work after study

Denmark can give 3 years to find a job after a master’s — if you learn Danish

Copenhagen and DTU are not cheap. They are longer than Sweden and more specialised than a UK one-year MSc. Danish still decides the job.

Among Nordic stay-back rules, Denmark currently gives master’s graduates one of the longer job-search residences — up to three years. Families who only compare “UK two years versus Canada PGWP” skip it. That is a miss for life-sciences and a handful of engineering profiles.

It is not a bargain. Copenhagen rent is Nordic. Tuition is not German-public. The conversion switch is Danish language plus a sector that actually hires internationals — Novo-adjacent life sciences, energy, shipping software. A generic taught MA plus English-only is how you donate kroner to a bicycle.

What this means: DTU and the University of Copenhagen are the names. Aarhus is the pressure valve. If the student will learn the language and the subject maps to a Danish industry, the long window is a real asset. If not, look at Germany.

UK post-study work is 2 years until the end of 2026 — then 18 months

If you apply for the Graduate visa on or before 31 December 2026, you get two years. From 1 January 2027, most graduates get 18 months. A one-year master’s starting in September 2026 usually falls into the shorter window.
