At a glance
What a student from Maharashtra needs to know before deciding — clearly and honestly.
The education
World-class research and the densest start-up ecosystem on earth, with English-taught master's and PhDs in CS, engineering and life sciences.
The true cost
Tuition is moderate and scholarships exist, but Tel Aviv living costs are high. The clearest value is a funded research place.
Safety & visa
Important: the regional security situation is volatile. This is not a low-risk destination today — read the MEA advisory first.
Top universities
A selection of universities popular with Maharashtra students. Fees vary by university and programme — check each university’s current fee schedule. Israeli universities are operating and admitting international students. Because the regional situation can change, check admission status and any in-person or remote arrangements directly with the university before you enrol.
After you graduate
Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.
Israel has no general graduate job-search visa. To work after your studies, you must move from A/2 student status to an employer-sponsored B/1 work visa. High-tech and researcher routes exist, but they are specialist routes, not automatic graduate entitlements.
Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.

Visa, work & money rules
The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning — last audited 17 September 2026. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.
Student visa
International students hold the A/2 student visa. You apply for it before arrival through the Israeli mission in India. It is valid for up to one year and is renewed for longer programmes. You need proof of sufficient funds for tuition and living costs, and proof of health insurance. The visa can include multiple-entry permission.
Work while studying
An A/2 student visa generally does not allow you to work in Israel. There is one narrow exception: master’s, PhD and post-doctoral students can be employed part-time by their university in teaching or research within their field. Do not assume a general part-time work allowance for students.
Family & dependants
The A/2 student visa is issued to you, the student. A spouse or children are not automatically covered; they need their own qualifying status under the Population and Immigration Authority rules.
Health insurance
Proof of health insurance is a mandatory A/2 visa requirement. International students arrange private medical cover. Confirm the specific policy with your university.
